Jacob Lyng has worked for Cancún News and Maya News since the 2016 elections in Quintana Roo, Mexico. His fourthcoming book investigates the militarization of the Maya Zone on the Yucatán as organized crime groups fight for ascendenscy in the region during the construction of the Maya Train through the Yucatec jungle.

Jacob edits for IC Magazine and has chronicled mining conflicts in the Ecuadorian Amazon to a tuberculosis outbreak in the U’wa indigenous community as they fight petroleum companies on the Colombia-Venezuela border.

Esperanza Project

He is also on the board of the Esperanza Project, a bi-lingual English and Spanish magazine that covers environmental journalism in the Americas. There he published his analysis on the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the U.S.-Mexico border during the migration crisis.
